Quick Event May 17

On Thursday, May 17, the GCC will hold a one-night, 3-round quick-rated event. The time control will be G/26 with a 3-second delay, and the first round will start around 8 PM. The entry fee is $3, and USCF membership is required to participate.

The following Thursday, May 24, IM Dr. Danny Kopec will be giving a lecture and a simul at the GCC as a precursor to the SC Open. Details will be posted shortly.

Gene Nix Wins Spring Showdown

The fifth and final round of the Spring Showdown took place the night of April 26. Gene Nix took clear first place with 4 points after taking a perpetual check against Tim Rankin on board 1. Wayne Williams, Tim Rankin, and Marcus Lemmond finished in a 3-way tie for second place with 3.5 points each, with Lemmond winning the under-2000 prize outright after defeating Gerard Dotti. David Biggs clinched the under-1500 prize with a tactical win over Mike Moore, finishing with 3 points and marking his third upset win of the tournament.
