Greenville Chess Club History
The Greenville Chess Club was first founded over forty years ago as a casual club. In the mid 1990s, largely under the direction of Wayne Williams, the GCC
began regularly holding official USCF-rated tournaments, though it had held an occasional rated event before. Since then, the GCC has been
the place to go in upstate SC for competitive chess, holding on average about a dozen rated tournaments each year (comprising both slow and quick events).
